The State of Voting in Tennessee
- Tennessee ranks 49th in the MIT Elections Performance Index.
- Only around 52% of Tennesse’s eligible voters cast their vote in the 2012 and 2016 presidential elections (U.S. Elections Poject).
- The gubernatiorial or “mid-term” elections in November 2018 had a turnout of only 45.1% of eligible citizens in Tennessee voted (U.S. Elections Project).
- Voter turnout in the Nashville mayoral runoff election in 2019 was only 20.96%. Of those votes only 9% of voters were under the age of 35 and only 2% aged 18-24.
