Five local organizations are collaborating to bring you a virtual visit with Elaine Weiss, author of The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote. This event is part of our continuing celebration of the centennial of women’s suffrage and the 19th amendment.

LWV of Murfreesboro, the Rutherford Arts Alliance, the American Association of University Women–Murfreesboro, the Middle Tennessee Lawyers’ Association for Women, and the MTSU President’s Commission on the Status of Women are sponsoring this event. At the author’s request, donations will be accepted to benefit the League of Women Voters of Tennessee.

The Woman’s Hour chronicles the critical last six weeks of the battle for women’s right to vote in the Tennessee
State Legislature. The book follows the activists who led the decades-long fight to grant women the right to vote and sheds light on how close the battle to ratify the 19th Amendment really was. The story celebrates those who changed history and laid the foundation for the civil rights movement that came decades later. Amblin TV (Steven Spielberg) has optioned the book for a TV mini-series or movie.
